Saraki Urges Party Unity and Strategic Planning for 2027 Election Success Following Supreme Court Ruling

Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, has urged the newly elected Peoples Democratic Party leadership to view the Supreme Court's recent verdict as an opportunity to reunite the party and prepare for the 2027 election, following the national convention held on March 29, 2026.

Saraki's statement, released by Yusuph Olaniyonu, head of the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office, emphasized that the Supreme Court's decision validated his earlier stance that the Ibadan national convention should not have taken place and instead suggested an interim arrangement to avoid prolonged litigation and a challenging reconciliation process.

He recalled expressing this position to key party members and the committee of elders, led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu, the Wakili of Adamawa, when they sought his input on the matter, reiterating his plea to avoid a tumultuous reconciliation process.

Saraki stated that now that all parties have aired their views and the apex court has declared the Ibadan Convention null and void, affirming the Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara-led National Working Committee as the recognized leadership, it is time for the party to unite and work towards success across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The PDP leader emphasized that the focus should shift to rebuilding and strengthening the party, making it a credible alternative platform for members and non-members to realize their ambitions and provide good governance to Nigerians, rather than dwelling on who won or lost in court.

Saraki encouraged those who lost in court to view their return to the party as another victory, as the objective of preserving the PDP as a credible platform for members to contest elections in 2027 has been achieved, and he expressed happiness that the PDP will be on the ballot in 2027.

He called on colleagues who have been in court for several months to rejoin the party, urging them to see the bigger picture, as the PDP is now the only alternative platform with cleared hurdles, unlike other opposition parties embroiled in disputes that may prevent them from participating in the 2027 elections.

Saraki congratulated the NWC members on their victory and urged them to build a united party driven by discipline, adherence to the rule of law, commitment to democratic principles, and national development, ultimately aiming for victory in the 2027 polls.
