Saraki Urges Party Cohesion as PDP Gears Up for Internal Elections

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State to stand together and remain dedicated as the party navigates a pivotal stage in its rebuilding efforts ahead of upcoming elections.

Saraki made this appeal on Saturday during a pre-national convention dinner at his residence in Abuja, where Kwara delegates, aspirants, state executives, and other key stakeholders gathered in anticipation of the party's convention.

The former governor described the convention as a crucial moment that would shape the PDP's prospects in Kwara State, determining its ability to present a viable alternative platform in the state.

Saraki stated, "Alhamdulillah that we are at this point, and this convention is very important to us not just as a party, but as a state seeking a credible platform for contest," emphasizing the significance of the event.

He characterized the convention as the "last leg" in the process of repositioning the PDP to challenge for power in Kwara, and he advised aspirants to approach the upcoming primary elections with maturity and a collective spirit.

Saraki emphasized that the party's primary goal should be to win and salvage the state, saying "What is important is PDP winning and salvaging our state, this is not a do-or-die affair but a collective mission," and warning that internal divisions could jeopardize the party's electoral prospects.

Following the convention, Saraki called for immediate grassroots mobilization, urging party leaders to strengthen engagement with wards, local government structures, youth groups, and party directorates.

He extended an olive branch to members of opposing political camps, assuring them that the party is open and inclusive, saying "Our doors are open, many are suffering in silence; we can accommodate as many as possible for the sake of the state."

Saraki criticized the current administration in Kwara State as a "bad narrative" for the state, but expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim power and reposition Kwara for growth and prosperity.

He declared, "PDP shall resecure the state and lead it to prosperity," adding that "PDP is a family affair," as the party strives to rebuild its political relevance in Kwara State since losing power in the 2019 general elections.
