Samsung devices that will miss out on the upcoming Android 17 upgrade revealed in entirety

Google is anticipated to unveil the stable version of Android 17 in June 2026, following which Samsung will commence the rollout of One UI 9 to eligible Galaxy devices, albeit with several popular models being left behind due to the conclusion of their Android upgrade cycle.

Devices launched in 2022 or earlier, including the Galaxy S22 lineup, Galaxy A53, Galaxy A73, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and multiple Galaxy M-series models, will not receive Android 17, with Android 16 and One UI 8 being their final major software update.

The decision to end support for these devices stems from Samsung's software update policy, which allocates a fixed number of Android OS upgrades and security updates to each Galaxy device, after which the phone no longer receives new Android versions.

Samsung operates across four major support tiers, and the faster release of Android versions has resulted in some devices exhausting their upgrade promises earlier than expected, with Android 16 marking the end of the road for the listed phones.

The Galaxy S22 series, which launched in February 2022 with Android 12, has exhausted its software support window after receiving Android 13, 14, 15, and 16, although it will still receive One UI 8.5 and quarterly security patches through roughly 2027.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, which launched in early 2022 with Android 12, will also not receive Android 17, with Android 16 being its final major update, and it qualifies for One UI 8.5.

The Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra have already exited Samsung's active update roadmap, with their final major Android version being Android 14 with One UI 6.1.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra officially reached end-of-life support in 2025, with their final operating system update being Android 13.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, which launched in 2022 with Android 12, will have Android 16 as their last major Android release, with Samsung expected to deliver One UI 8.5 before shifting both devices to quarterly security updates.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are already nearing the end of support, with their final Android version being Android 15 with One UI 7.

The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, Galaxy A33 5G, and Galaxy A73 5G, which were among Samsung's most popular mid-range phones in 2022, will have Android 16 as their final major upgrade, after which they will no longer receive new Android versions.

The Samsung Galaxy A24, which launched in 2023 with Android 13, will also not receive Android 17, capping out at Android 16.

The Galaxy A23 5G has reached its final major OS version with Android 15 and remains on quarterly security updates but is no longer eligible for future Android releases.

The Galaxy A23 LTE and Galaxy A13 have completely exited Samsung's routine update roadmap, with both ending support with Android 14.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G lineup, which launched with only a two-OS update promise, will have Android 15 as their final Android version.

Popular older mid-range devices like the Samsung Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 are now fully retired from major software support, with their last Android version being Android 14.

Several Galaxy M and F series devices, including the Samsung Galaxy M33 5G, Galaxy M34, Galaxy M54, Galaxy M14 5G, Galaxy F54, and Galaxy F14, will also miss out on Android 17, with most stopping at either Android 15 or Android 16.

Samsung's tablet lineup is also affected, with devices such as the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S8+, Galaxy Tab S7 FE, Galaxy Tab A9, and Galaxy Tab A8 losing upgrade eligibility, with the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup ending with Android 16 and older Tab S7 devices stopping at Android 14.

For many of the affected devices, One UI 8.5 will likely be the last meaningful feature update they receive, introducing several new features, including improved Quick Share file transfers, AI-powered photo editing tools, and better document scanning, although they will miss Android 17-exclusive features.

After One UI 8.5, most affected Galaxy phones will move to quarterly security updates before eventually reaching complete end-of-life status, marking the end of their software support cycle.
