Safety measures intensified at Islamic places of worship and outdoor prayer areas in Jos

Security measures have been significantly enhanced around mosques and prayer grounds in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, as Muslims observe Eid-el-Fitr, with a notable presence of security personnel at the Fibre Mosque near the Old Airport Junction.

The increased security presence is also evident at other key locations, including Eid prayer grounds, central mosques, markets, motor parks, and recreational centres, all aimed at preventing any disruption to the peace.

At the mosque located near the Federal Secretariat and at Masallacin Eid in Tudun Wada, a mix of uniformed and plainclothes security operatives are deployed, conducting enhanced patrols and surveillance to quickly identify and address any suspicious activities.

A visit to the Mosque at Dogo Karfe revealed that worshippers are able to carry out their activities without incident, thanks to the visible presence of security operatives on the ground.

Prior to the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the Plateau State Police Command had elevated the state's security alert status, implementing comprehensive deployments to ensure safety.

A press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, outlined a robust security plan involving key assets and personnel to protect lives, property, and public order throughout the celebrations across the state.

The statement served as a warning to individuals with intentions to disrupt the peace, notifying them that they would face immediate arrest and prosecution.

Specific restrictions have been put in place, including a complete ban on the operation of commercial tricycles, known as Keke Napep, in both Jos and Bukuru metropolis on the day of the Sallah celebrations.

The Commissioner of Police urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities, while also avoiding actions that could provoke violence or unrest.

CP Bassey Ewah made a particular appeal to religious leaders, parents, and community stakeholders to promote peace, orderliness, and security awareness during the festive period.
