Poland captain Robert Lewandowski is set to leave European football after reaching an agreement to join Chicago Fire FC from FC Barcelona.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday that the veteran striker has agreed to join the Major League Soccer side, with all details of the deal finalized.

According to the report, Lewandowski is expected to sign his contract in the coming weeks before officially completing the move to the United States.

The transfer will bring an end to the 37-year-old’s stint in European football, where he established himself as one of the game’s most prolific goalscorers during spells with Barcelona and several top clubs.

Lewandowski’s expected arrival continues the growing trend of high-profile European stars moving to MLS. Earlier this summer, Antoine Griezmann also completed a switch to the American league by joining Orlando City SC.

Chicago Fire are expected to announce the signing once the remaining formalities, including the contract signing, are completed.
