Quartet of lawmakers abandon PDP and LP for APC, while another joins Accord Party ranks

A significant shift in party allegiance has occurred, with four lawmakers from the House of Representatives making the switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).

Inuwa Garuba, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, and Mohammed Audu, representing Yamaltu/Deba, Dukku/Nafada, and Karim Lamido/Lau/Ardo-Kola federal constituencies, respectively, have all defected from the PDP to the APC, citing internal party issues.

Another lawmaker, Obika Chinedu, has also joined the APC, defecting from the Labour Party, and will now represent Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the APC banner.

In a separate move, Adewale Adebayo, who represents Irepodun/Olorunda/Osogbo/Orolu federal constituency of Osun State, has announced his departure from the PDP, opting instead to join the Accord Party.

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, formally acknowledged the defections during a plenary session on Wednesday, marking a notable change in the House's party dynamics.

The lawmakers' decision to leave their former parties has been attributed to the internal crises plaguing the PDP and LP, prompting their switch to new political affiliations.
