Balmoral Promotions is targeting a blockbuster heavyweight fight in Nigeria between Anthony Joshua and new heavyweight sensation, Moses Itauma for 2027 in Nigeria, though no official agreement is in place yet. The proposed bout is envisioned to happen in Lagos as a means of bringing home the two Anglo-British fighters whose roots are in Nigeria.

This news has excited former Commonwealth and British light heavyweight boxing Champion Peter Idemudia Oboh, who, in his active days also fought under the British flag, the Union Jack.

Reacting to the news, Oboh who has since returned to Nigeria said the history-making mega fight being put together by Dr Ezekiel Adamu, chief Executive Officer of Balmoral Promotions will be the first of its kind on Nigerian soil. “It will be historic and the bout will create a positive image for Nigeria.”

The pugilist-turned pastor who was also the W.B.A International light heavyweight champion observed that “if such a fight will be possible, I would love to be involved in it because boxing can not be better or greater than such a mega show of two super fighters renowned exhibiting their skills for the first time in their father land.’

He continued, “these two boxing heroes are highly respected by boxing enthusiasts, including highly placed Nigerians. Such a fight can only be compared to the famous Mohammed Ali vs George Foreman Rumble in the Jungle fame that took place in Zaire in 1974.

This fight will make history and maybe surpass the Mohammad Ali v George Forman 50-year fight and could go down as the biggest ever staged in the African continent.”

He however, sees some obstacles which must be overcome if such a fight will ever hold. “I can see 5 major barriers that must be overcome for this super fight to happen and to stand any chance of happening in Nigeria. Moses Itauma and Anthony Joshua.” He mentioned the huge financial implications among other things.
