US President Donald Trump reached out to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu via phone call on Monday, according to a White House official, in the wake of the first exchange of fire between Israel and Iran since the April ceasefire.

This development comes as reports have surfaced of a strained relationship between the US leader and Netanyahu, with Trump reportedly referring to his ally as “crazy” during a previous phone conversation.

Iran launched a missile attack on Israel overnight, prompting Israel to retaliate by targeting military sites within the Islamic republic, thereby fueling concerns of a potential large-scale conflict.

Earlier on Monday, Trump took to social media to urge restraint, stating that “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting’”.
