Police rescue abducted woman, two-year-old son from forest hideout in Kwara

The Nigeria Police Force has rescued a 43-year-old abducted woman and her two-year-old son from a forest hideout in Kwara State following a tactical operation by its operatives.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Okokon Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the rescue was carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in collaboration with local security support groups.

According to the statement, the operation followed credible intelligence that the victims were being held in a forest at Bode Sadu in Kwara State.

Iniedu said the kidnappers opened fire on the operatives upon sighting them but were repelled after a tactical response, forcing them to flee deeper into the forest.

He said the operatives subsequently combed the area and rescued the victims, identified as Adijat Kuburat, 43, and her two-year-old son, Abdul Malik Hamzat, from the kidnappers’ hideout.

The police spokesman said the mother and child had been taken to a medical facility, where they are receiving treatment and care.

He added that efforts had been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network responsible for the abduction.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for their professionalism and courage during the rescue operation.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes through sustained intelligence-led and collaborative operations until those responsible are brought to justice.
