Police raid bandits’ hideout, recover rifles, ammunition in Mamdam Forest

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has raided a suspected bandits’ hideout in Dajin Mamdam Forest, recovering two FN FAL rifles and live ammunition.

The command said the operation followed intelligence from investigations into a suspected arms trafficking syndicate allegedly supplying weapons and ammunition to criminal groups.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this on Wednesday, saying operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out the operation on August 2, 2026.

Adeh said the operation was based on information provided by one of the suspects, Musbahu Ishaq, who was among four suspects earlier arrested for alleged involvement in the supply of arms, ammunition and illicit substances to bandits.

She said the investigation led operatives to Dajin Mamdam Forest, located between Plateau and Bauchi states, where the syndicate was suspected to have maintained a hideout.

“Further investigation established that Musbahu Ishaq obtained arms and ammunition from one Rabiu Hassan and supplied them to one Baba Alhaji Sanusi, a suspected bandit kingpin currently at large and believed to be hiding in a forest in Katsina State,” Adeh said.

She added that a thorough search of the hideout led to the recovery of two FN FAL rifles and live ammunition concealed in the forest.

The police spokesperson said investigations were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, recover more arms linked to the network and prosecute all suspects.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, assuring residents that operations would continue until criminal networks are dismantled.

He urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies through the nearest police station or the command’s emergency lines.
