Police neutralise three suspects in anti-banditry operation in Zamfara

GUSAU — The Zamfara State Police Command says it has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing operations against banditry and other violent crimes in the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the command said a joint security team neutralised three suspected bandits during an operation in the Jangebe Forest area of Anka Local Government Area.

According to the statement, the operation followed the recent deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other operational vehicles provided by the Zamfara State Government to support security efforts.

The police said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), the Zamfara State Police Command and Civilian Security Volunteers under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello.

The team reportedly conducted coordinated operations in Taza, Wuya and Gwaram villages within the Jangebe Forest axis, where they encountered armed suspects.

Police said an exchange of gunfire ensued, after which three suspects were killed, while others reportedly fled into the forest. One suspect was arrested during the operation.

Items recovered, according to the command, included three AK-47 rifles, 23 rounds of live ammunition, three magazines and 10 motorcycles.

The police added that no casualties were recorded among security personnel involved in the operation.

The command described the operation as significant, noting that it marked a major security operation within that part of the Jangebe Forest, which authorities say has been used by criminal groups.

It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at tackling banditry and improving security across Zamfara State.
