Police in Ogun State apprehend pair connected to abduction and homicide incident in Edo.

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two suspects, Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, in connection with the kidnapping and murder of two hostages in Okada, Edo State, and seized a police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones during the operation.

The suspects were arrested in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following intelligence-led investigations conducted by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which led to their identification as key persons of interest in the case.

A statement issued by the state PPRO, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Saturday revealed that preliminary investigations indicated the suspects are wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case in Edo State, with the statement providing details on the suspects' identities and alleged involvement.

The statement disclosed that the suspects, Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were identified through extensive profiling and investigation, which also revealed their alleged membership in a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the incident.

Further intelligence gathered by the Command suggested that the suspects are connected to the kidnapping and murder case under investigation, with one pair of Police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones recovered from them during the operation.

The recovered exhibits have been properly documented and taken into custody to aid further investigation, according to the Command, which noted that the offences under investigation were committed outside Ogun State.

The suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution, in line with inter-state policing procedures, as the offences were committed outside Ogun State.

Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and diligence of the operatives involved in the operation, describing the arrests as a significant breakthrough in the case.

CP Bode Ojajuni reiterated the command’s commitment to preventing Ogun State from being used as a safe haven or transit point for criminal elements and pledged continued collaboration with other state commands to combat crime.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information that could assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities across the state, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in crime prevention.
