Police detain suspected kidnapper, recover AK-49 in Nasarawa

The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has detained one suspected kidnapper in the Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lafia.

He said it was a significant breakthrough in the command’s sustained efforts to combat criminality across the state.

The PPRO said that the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 38 Akwanga Unit Command received a report about the suspect on Friday, March 20, at approximately 5:00 p.m.

He said that the credible intelligence indicated that a suspected kidnapper was sighted in possession of a firearm within the area.

“Acting swiftly on the information, a team of Mobile Police operatives was immediately deployed to the scene,,the Adudu and they successfully apprehended the 32-year-old male suspect.

n

“The suspect is from Rugan Hassan in Adudu Community of the Awe Local Government Area of the state.

n

“Upon arrest, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one AK-49 rifle along with four rounds of live 7.56 mm ammunition,” he said.

Nansel noted that the suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.

He said that the police would continue the investigation to apprehend other members of the criminal network.

The PPRO, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
