The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a man accused of cutting off his ex-partner’s finger in a suspected domestic abuse case that gained traction online after a viral video by TikTok user @anniesglowlagos.
In a statement released on Thursday, the agency said it swung into action after discovering the video and immediately reached out to the victim.
The victim posted a distress video on TikTok on March 22, saying she was undergoing treatment in an undisclosed hospital and pleading for help.
She also explained that she was unable to upload more graphic evidence due to TikTok restrictions and expressed frustration over what she initially perceived as inaction by authorities.
The TikToker claimed the suspect attacked her at her residence, inflicted serious injuries, and fled with her child while continuing to threaten her safety.
“This has actually been going on for a long time… we don’t stay together… I stay on my own while he stay on his own,” she said.
The DSVA however said in its statement, “We became aware of the video and promptly established contact with the survivor and ensured that the case was formally reported to the appropriate authorities.”
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred on March 21, 2026, and was reported at the FESTAC Police Station Tactical Squad.
“The incident… is currently being handled by the Family Support Unit, FESTAC Police Station,” the statement said.
The DSVA noted that the assault resulted “in severe injuries, including the loss of a finger.”
“The alleged perpetrator was apprehended, and the matter has been diligently investigated by law enforcement authorities,” the statement added.
“On 25th March 2026, the case was charged to court at Court 6, MBA Ajegunle,” it said, adding that the suspect “has since been remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre pending further proceedings.”
The DSVA also revealed that the court granted the defendant bail.
“Bail was granted in the sum of ₦200,000 with two sureties,” while “the next court hearing has been scheduled for 29th April 2026.
“The survivor has been referred for psychosocial support to aid her recovery and well-being,” the agency said.
