Police Chief Inspects NIPSS After Fatal Assault

On Thursday, IGP Disu Olatunji Disu, the Inspector General of Police, paid a visit to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, located in Kuru, near Jos, following a recent attack on the institute by gunmen. He was represented by Isyaku Muhammed, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, who also serves as the coordinating DIG for the North-Central zone.

The visit came after gunmen attacked the institute on Tuesday morning, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and a policeman, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

IGP Disu, through his representative, offered condolences to Prof. Ayo Omotayo, the Director General of NIPSS, as well as the participants and staff, over the incident, and also extended his sympathies to the families of the slain security personnel.

Disu assured that the police would do everything in their power to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack and promised to establish a police post within the institute to provide enhanced surveillance and swift response to potential threats.

The IGP also gave assurances that the police, in collaboration with the military, had taken sufficient measures to secure the environment, allowing the community to go about their daily activities without fear.

In response to the IGP's visit, Omotayo expressed his gratitude and commended the security agencies for their prompt response in containing the situation.

Omotayo revealed that the institute had received prior notification of the attack from the gunmen, but despite being prepared, the institute still suffered the loss of three security personnel during the attack.

According to Omotayo, the swift response from the security personnel, who did not flee, enabled the institute to repel the attack, and he noted that normalcy had since been restored, with all activities fully resumed.
