Police arrest suspected cult member in Ekiti, recover gun, cartridge

ADO-EKITI — The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Sunday Samuel, of Isare Street, Efon-Ekiti, over alleged cult-related activities.

The command also recovered a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone from the suspect.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.

According to the statement, Samuel was arrested at about 11:45 p.m. following intelligence received by operatives of the Efon Division about his presence in the town.

“Upon receipt of the information, operatives immediately commenced investigation which led to his arrest. A locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone were recovered from him,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Ado-Ekiti, for further investigation.

The commissioner assured residents that the command remained committed to preventing cult-related activities and other forms of criminality across the state.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to the police as security operations and discreet monitoring continue across the state.
