Police arrest 20-year-old over alleged defilement, robbery

BAUCHI — The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Isiyaku Usman, over the alleged defilement and robbery of a seven-year-old girl in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect allegedly lured the minor into an uncompleted building, where he sexually assaulted her and allegedly dispossessed her of two mobile phones.

The incident occurred on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at about 8am in Kari village, Darazo, according to the police.

The command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

Habib said the victim was walking to a neighbouring house with two Tecno A31 Android phones when she was allegedly intercepted by Usman, who resides in the same area.

According to him, the girl’s 37-year-old father reported the incident at a police station later that afternoon.

Habib said detectives immediately commenced investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspect, who was allegedly found in possession of the stolen phones.

He added that the suspect and the victim were taken to Darazo General Hospital for medical examination and documentation.

According to the police spokesman, Usman allegedly confessed to the offence and remains in custody as investigation continues.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident, describing it as a “senseless and heinous act.”

The CP ordered the immediate transfer of the case file to the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation.

He said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards sexual and gender-based violence in the state.

It also urged parents, guardians and community members to remain vigilant about the safety and movements of children, assuring the public that the case would be handled in accordance with the law.
