Police arrest 19-year-old over armed robbery, recover stolen motorcycle in Plateau

JOS — The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, Abba Ahmed, in connection with an alleged armed robbery during which a motorcycle was reportedly stolen from its owner at New Legislative Quarters, Jos.

The suspect was arrested following an intelligence-led operation by detectives from the Nasarawa Gwom Police Division after the incident, which occurred on July 6, 2026, at about 9:20 p.m.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Alfred Alabo, the victim was attacked by an unidentified assailant who allegedly shot him in the back before fleeing with his Jincheng motorcycle, popularly known as “Rubber-Rubber.”

The statement said that following a distress call, detectives from the Nasarawa Gwom Police Division mobilised to the scene and rushed the injured victim to Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, where he received medical attention.

The police said detectives, acting on credible intelligence, subsequently arrested Ahmed, a resident of Filin Sukuwa, Jos, at Lere in connection with the incident.

According to the police, the suspect was found in possession of the stolen motorcycle, while efforts were ongoing to recover the firearm allegedly used in the attack and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police said the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Jos, for further investigation, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other possible suspects.

The Acting Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons and activities to the police.
