Plateau State Government presses charges against five detained individuals in connection with Angwa-Rukuba violence, following DSS apprehension.

Following President Bola Tinubu's visit to Plateau State, where he vowed to deliver justice to victims of serial attacks, the State Government has formally filed charges against five suspects apprehended by the Department of State Services in connection with the March 2026 killings in Angwa-Rukuba, Jos North LGA.

The suspects, including Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar, and Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, face charges of criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism and related offences, while Adamu Isa Alhassan has been charged with criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and illegal possession of firearms.

The five defendants were taken into custody between April 3 and April 10, 2026, and the State Attorney General, Philemon Audu Daffi, has filed the charges, citing that their actions were "contrary to Section 269 and Punishable under Section 270 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State, 2017."

The charges against Isa Umar Ibrahim, Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar, and Ado Ibrahim, who is currently at large, allege that they conspired to commit terrorism by planning and organizing an attack in Angwan Rukuba, resulting in the death of over 30 people.

Additionally, the charges claim that the suspects contributed money to carry out the attack, which was planned and facilitated in Farin Gada, Jos North Local Government Area, and that they thereby committed the offence of terrorism.

Adamu Isa Alhassan's charges also include culpable homicide punishable with death, for his alleged role in attacks on Gwang, Rin Ward, Bachit, and Bangai Villages of Riyom Local Government Area and Vom in Jos South Local Government Area.

It is recalled that on March 28, 2025, at least 30 people, including children, were killed in suspected herder attacks on communities in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.

Following the killings, Governor Caleb Mutfwang faced calls to cancel a state-organized programme, "Experience Plateau, Arts Meets Fashion," but he refused, stating that doing so would satisfy the agenda of the attackers.

Instead, the governor declared that "life must go on" and that the state would not be intimidated by the attacks, which he described as "genocide" rather than a farmer-herder conflict.

During President Tinubu's visit to the state, he met with victims of the attacks, assessed the damage, and promised justice for those who suffered losses, assuring that ongoing interventions would help restore lasting peace.

The President also urged citizens of the state to be vigilant, and the government remains optimistic that peace will be restored to the troubled areas.
