Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Wednesday evening met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as the federal government intensifies its response to the deadly attacks that have rocked the state in recent days.

The governor arrived at Aso Rock at about 6:45pm, according to the State House media office, with the meeting expected to centre on immediate security measures to prevent further attacks in Plateau State.

The meeting follows the deadly Palm Sunday attack in the Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, which reportedly claimed at least 27 lives, and comes after President Tinubu summoned the governor for discussions over the deteriorating security situation in the state.

Earlier on Monday, Tinubu had issued a strongly worded condemnation of the Jos attack and a separate incident in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were killed and abducted.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the killings as “barbaric and cowardly,” vowing that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” Tinubu had said.

While condemning the attacks, the President also commended Governor Mutfwang for his efforts in containing the situation and directed security agencies to intensify their pursuit of the perpetrators.

Tinubu equally cautioned sections of the media against framing the attacks as religiously motivated, warning that such narratives risked escalating violence in an already tense environment.
