Plateau attack: NEMA delivers relief materials to victims

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has presented relief materials to the Plateau State Government for immediate distribution to survivors and victims of the deadly gunmen attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.

The intervention is aimed at providing urgent succour to affected persons to enable them to rebuild their lives and resume normal activities after the tragic incident on Palm Sunday.

The Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, who was represented by the North Central Zonal Coordinator, Mr Adebiyi B. Razaq, handed over the materials at the Old Government House, Rayfield, Jos.

Mrs Umar explained that the relief items were approved by the Federal Government following a comprehensive assessment of the damage by the NEMA Operations Office in Jos.

The approved items include 1,000 bags of 25 kg rice, 300 bags of 25 kg beans, 165 cartons of spaghetti (20 packets of 500 g), 100 cartons of vegetable oil (5 litres x 4), 100 cartons of seasoning cubes, 100 bags of tomato paste (50 sachets), and 80 bags of 20 kg iodised salt.

Other items include 50 cartons of detergent, 100 bags of dignity kits, 100 pieces of wax print (6 yards), 200 pieces of Guinea brocade, 200 pieces of foam mattresses, and various medicaments including silver sulphadiazine cream and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid 625 mg, among others.

Receiving the materials on behalf of the state, Governor Caleb Mutfwang assured that the items would be distributed promptly and transparently to the rightful beneficiaries.

The governor expressed appreciation to NEMA for the timely intervention and commended the strong working relationship between the agency and the Plateau State Government. “It is the responsibility of government to come to the aid of the vulnerable so they can rebuild their lives.

“We appreciate the Director-General for this support and assure that all items provided will be judiciously managed and delivered to the rightful beneficiaries,” Mutfwang stated.

The relief comes days after the Angwan Rukuba attack that claimed several lives and left many others injured.
