ABUJA — Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday met with Seriake Dickson in Abuja, amid reports of their planned defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The two opposition figures arrived at Dickson’s residence at about 5:14 p.m. for a closed-door meeting with the former Bayelsa State governor, who is also a leading figure in the NDC, as well as other party leaders.

Although the agenda of the meeting was not officially disclosed, sources said the discussions were part of ongoing political consultations and alliance-building efforts ahead of 2027.

The development comes as reports emerged that Obi and Kwankwaso were expected to formally join the NDC on Sunday, in what party insiders described as a significant realignment within the opposition.

According to an invitation circulated to journalists via an NDC media platform, the proposed declaration was scheduled to take place earlier in the day in Abuja, where both politicians were to be received by Dickson and the party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, alongside members of the National Working Committee.

Party sources described the anticipated move as a growing wave of confidence in the NDC, positioning it as an emerging platform for opposition collaboration ahead of the next election cycle.
