Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, a coalition of Nigeria's oil- and gas-producing communities has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu, endorsing him for a second term to sustain the ongoing reforms and policies of his administration.
This endorsement was made by the Communities of Oil and Gas in Nigeria, or COGIN, a group that represents communities in oil- and gas-producing areas and advocates for their development and economic opportunities.
COGIN has pledged to mobilize its members across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory to support President Tinubu if he decides to seek re-election, with the aim of securing a significant number of votes.
The group's Director-General, Benjamin Style Tamaranebi, has expressed the organization's commitment to continuing its engagement with stakeholders and advocacy for policies that improve the welfare of oil- and gas-producing communities.
COGIN has praised the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that its policies have already begun to yield tangible improvements for host communities, and has emphasized the need for continuity of leadership to consolidate gains and sustain development initiatives.
The organization has stated that it sees no need to change a winning team and has pledged to mobilize 10 million votes for President Tinubu's re-election, in order to further the reforms already initiated by his administration.
According to COGIN, President Tinubu's bold vision under the Renewed Hope Agenda has sparked real progress across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, proving doubters wrong and inspiring hope nationwide over the course of three years.
COGIN has urged President Tinubu to contest in the 2027 presidential election, stating that four years is not enough time to fully consolidate the laudable projects and policies initiated so far, and that his continued leadership is essential to sustain the development initiatives that have been set in motion.
