Peter Obi refutes rumours of division in Obidient Movement

The Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi, has dismissed reports suggesting internal divisions within his supporters, popularly known as the “Obidient Movement.”

Obi said the claims of disunity were false and insisted that the movement remains intact and united.

In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by Ibrahim Umar, spokesman for Peter Obi, the allegations of a split within the movement were described as “manufactured media reports.”

The statement said what some interpret as division is actually the “organic and decentralised evolution” of a citizen-led coalition.

“We have become aware of ongoing, manufactured media reports suggesting that the Obidient Movement is experiencing internal divisions or fracturing. We unequivocally refute this claim,” the statement read.

It added that the movement is not a conventional political organisation with a rigid hierarchy, but rather a value-driven coalition based on accountability, economic progress, fairness and leadership.

According to the statement, the decentralised structure of the movement is deliberate and serves as its strength, preventing any single individual or group from controlling or compromising its objectives.

“The movement belongs to the Nigerian populace, not to a select group of politicians,” it stated.

The statement further maintained that the core mission of the movement remains unchanged, anchored on Peter Obi’s governance principles and commitment to ending transactional politics in Nigeria.

It urged the public and supporters to disregard what it described as “orchestrated campaigns of distraction,” insisting that the movement remains united, vigilant and focused on socio-economic reform.
