PDP: We will reclaim Wadata Plaza in no time, says Anyanwu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership has announced that it will soon resume operations at its national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, following a favourable judgment from the Court of Appeal, which paves the way for the party to restart activities at its headquarters as it prepares for its national convention and the 2027 general elections.

The decision comes after the appellate court ruled on several appeals related to the party's leadership dispute, thereby reaffirming the mandate of the caretaker committee to oversee the party's affairs and proceed with internal activities, a development that could significantly impact the party's internal balance of power in the coming months.

Abdulrahman Mohammed, Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee of the PDP, and Samuel Anyanwu, the party's National Secretary, addressed journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, following a meeting of the Caretaker Working Committee, and revealed that the party's leadership would return to its headquarters at Wadata Plaza soon.

When asked about the party's return to its headquarters, Anyanwu stated that the appeal court has given the national working committee the mandate to continue defending the party, and once they receive the certified copy of the judgment, they will resume operations at the national secretariat, particularly as they prepare for the national convention.

Anyanwu expressed his optimism about the party's return to its headquarters, saying that it would happen very soon, and he thanked the journalists for their attention.

Earlier, during the meeting, Mohammed welcomed committee members and party leaders, describing the gathering as crucial, especially given the recent court ruling, and he also congratulated party members on the progress made in internal party congresses in several states.

Mohammed thanked party leaders for their support and the opportunity given to the caretaker committee to lead the party, and he noted that the appellate court had delivered a judgment in favour of the committee in several appeals, with nine appeals being decided in their favour.

Mohammed expressed his appreciation for the encouragement, guidance, and prayers received from party members, leaders, and supporters, and he reiterated that the National Caretaker Working Committee remains the only national leadership recognised by the law and the party.

He emphasized that the National Caretaker Working Committee is the only legitimate body that can present a candidate in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, and he called on party leaders and members to unite behind the committee as the party prepares for the next election cycle.

Mohammed also warned party members about misinformation circulating on social media regarding the court judgment, and he urged them to wait for the certified copy of the judgment to prepare themselves for further defence of the party at the Supreme Court, if necessary.

These developments come as political parties begin quietly positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, and Mohammed appealed to party stakeholders to avoid fresh litigation that could slow down the party's preparations.
