PDP pledges to demonstrate its might in 2027 elections as 2,500 party representatives converge on Abuja for national convention

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has made a bold declaration that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is poised to make a strong statement at the 2027 general elections, promising that the party's performance will leave Nigerians in awe.

Wike made this assertion on Friday night, following an inspection of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, which is set to host the party's National Convention on March 29 and 30, where no fewer than 2,500 delegates are expected to be in attendance.

The minister downplayed the impact of legal challenges from the Tanimu Turaki group, stating that the appeal filed at the Supreme Court would not hinder the scheduled proceedings of the convention.

Wike was accompanied on the inspection by high-ranking party officials, including Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Board of Trustees BoT Chairman, and Mohammed Abdulrahman, Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee NCWC.

The minister emphasized that while the convention would proceed as planned, the party remains committed to addressing internal disputes with aggrieved members after the event, acknowledging that there is always room for accommodation within the party.

Wike noted that grievances are inevitable in any large group, but the party is willing to listen to concerns and work towards finding a resolution that prioritizes the overall interest of the party.

The party has finalized its zoning arrangement, with the presidency allocated to the South and the chairmanship zoned to the North, in a bid to ensure a seamless transition of leadership.

According to Wike, this consensus arrangement will facilitate a smoother process, and for the first time, the PDP is presenting a unified front, rather than being divided by internal factions.

Following his assessment of the facilities, Wike expressed confidence in the planning committee's readiness, stating that seating arrangements for delegates from all states and the VIP sections have been finalized.

The minister confirmed that the party is almost fully prepared, with about 95 percent of the arrangements in place, and expects everything to be set by Saturday.

The National Convention is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 29, and Monday, March 30, with Wike anticipating a successful event.
