PDP hits back at APC following attacks on its internal turmoil

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned a statement made by Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in which he claimed that the PDP is no longer a viable political party, with the PDP describing the remark as unfortunate and a clear example of delusional propaganda.

Ini Ememobong, the PDP's National Publicity Secretary, issued a statement on Monday maintaining that despite the APC's alleged attempts to orchestrate defections, Nigerians continue to reject the ruling party due to the hardships caused by the policies of President Bola Tinubu's administration.

The PDP insisted that its relevance remains intact, citing public dissatisfaction with the APC government as outweighing any internal challenges the party may be facing, in response to Morka's claim that the PDP is incapable of offering its members a credible platform to pursue their political aspirations.

Morka had previously stated that the PDP is no longer able to call itself a political party, citing the party's internal dysfunction as the reason, a claim that Ememobong described as unfortunate in the PDP's response.

The PDP's statement accused Morka and the APC of being delusional, citing the fact that despite the APC's efforts to secure defections, Nigerians have consistently rejected the ruling party, which is "daily ruining Nigeria and Nigerians".

The statement also highlighted the APC's struggles with membership registration, noting that in many states, governors have resorted to using databases of state empowerment programmes to populate their state registers, and citing the recent disruption of the City Boys event in Owerri as a sign of the party's unpopularity.

Ememobong warned Morka that his attempts to defend the APC's actions through propaganda would ultimately backfire, drawing a comparison between Morka's defence of the APC and the defence of Nazi Germany's atrocities by Joseph Goebbels.

The PDP's response concluded by assuring Morka that his name would be remembered as one of those who defended the Tinubu administration's maladministration when the history of the period is written.

The PDP has been weakened by a wave of defections, leaving it with only two state governors in Oyo and Bauchi, while the APC now controls 31 of the 36 states.

The latest defection to the APC is that of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, who joined the party, continuing a trend that has seen several PDP governors switch parties since 2025.
