Panic spreads through Ondo town after armed attackers abduct local government employee

A massive manhunt has been launched following the abduction of Mr. Gbenga Sanni, an official of Akure North Local Government, who was taken from his home in Ilu-Abo community, Akure, Ondo State, by suspected gunmen.

The incident occurred at the Agbelere area of Ilu-Abo, right in front of his residence, where the assailants emerged from a nearby bush and swiftly whisked the victim away to an unknown location.

According to reports, Sanni, a native of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, had just arrived home when the attackers struck, leaving his wife and two children inside the house to witness the abduction helplessly.

Details of the incident reveal that three armed men suddenly appeared from the nearby bush and carried out the operation, as confirmed by sources who described the scene.

A source recounted the events, saying "Three armed men came out of the nearby bush and whisked the victim away", highlighting the brazen nature of the abduction.

This latest incident marks the fourth kidnapping in the community within the last one month, with no fewer than three residents having been abducted during this period, throwing the area into fear and reigniting concerns over the growing insecurity.

Police spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, has confirmed the abduction and announced that officers and tactical teams have been deployed to the area to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and apprehend those responsible.

The incident has increased anxiety among residents over the rising insecurity in parts of Ondo State, with many expressing heightened fears for their safety.
