PalmPay introduces NightGuard for night-time transaction protection

PalmPay has introduced NightGuard, a security feature designed to give users additional protection against unauthorised transfers during late-night hours.

Femi Hanson, Head of Marketing, PalmPay Nigeria, said the feature was introduced because customers could be more vulnerable to fraud at night, particularly when a phone is lost or when scammers believe the account holder may be less alert.

“With many fraud incidents happening at night, particularly after a phone is lost or when scammers believe a customer may be less alert, it is important for users to have practical tools that can strengthen account security,” Hanson said.

“With NightGuard, PalmPay is laser-focused on protection during a time when users are typically off-guard. We will continue to educate users and give them more reason to feel confident about banking with us.”

NightGuard allows PalmPay users to set their preferred protection hours between 11pm and 7am through the app’s upgraded Security Center. During the selected period, transfer attempts require additional verification to confirm that the transaction is being initiated by the legitimate account holder.

Hanson said PalmPay would continue to educate customers and provide security tools to help them protect their accounts.

NightGuard forms part of PalmPay’s “PalmPay Dey For You” security campaign, which focuses on fraud awareness and the use of security features available to customers.

The upgraded Security Center brings PalmPay’s security tools together, allowing customers to manage protections for their accounts and transactions.

PalmPay said its security measures support wider efforts to promote safer digital payments in Nigeria, including priorities outlined in the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Payment System Vision 2028.
