Pair hurt as authorities thwart fresh abduction bid in Ibadan

Gunfire erupted in the Old Kara area of Bodija, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, as a kidnapping attempt was foiled, leaving two people with gunshot injuries, according to Adeola Badru.

This incident occurred just days after a similar attack in Onigambari village along the Ijebu-Ode axis in the Oluyole Local Government Area, where a victim named Dasola was killed.

Police Public Relations Officer Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed that the latest incident took place on April 21, 2026, at approximately 7:50 p.m., and was thwarted by the swift intervention of security operatives and local hunters.

The police received a distress call from a resident reporting that four armed hoodlums had invaded a Point of Sale shop in the area and opened fire, prompting immediate mobilization of police operatives to the scene.

Olayinka stated that the prompt intervention of police operatives, in collaboration with local hunters, foiled the attack and disrupted the criminals' operation, resulting in two individuals sustaining gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire.

These injured individuals were rescued and taken to a medical facility, where they are receiving treatment and reportedly responding well.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, with security personnel intensifying bush-combing operations in and around the area, according to the police spokesperson.

Following the incident, the commissioner of police in Oyo State has ordered the deployment of additional personnel to vulnerable locations across the state to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
