Oyo State Legislature Expresses Unanimous Support for Governor Makinde

In a show of solidarity, the Oyo State House of Assembly passed a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde during its plenary session on Wednesday, putting to rest unfounded rumours of impeachment plots against him and the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.

The resolution was made after lawmakers reaffirmed their support for the executive under Makinde and the legislative leadership under Ogundoyin, demonstrating their commitment to working together.

The Majority Leader of the House, Mr Sanjo Adedoyin, who represents Ogbomoso South State Constituency, moved the motion during the plenary sitting, emphasizing that the Assembly remains united and committed to its constitutional duties.

Adedoyin stressed that there had been no formal communication or move towards impeachment within the chamber, and described those spreading speculation as enemies of the state, praising the House for not succumbing to what he termed an evil plot to destabilise Makinde's government.

According to Adedoyin, the Assembly is focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo state, and the rumours of division are mere speculation that should be disregarded by the public.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr Mohammed Fadeyi, who seconded the motion, described the state legislature as a "unified house" and commended Governor Makinde for his steady leadership and people-oriented policies, particularly in infrastructure development, education, and health sectors.

Mr Gbenga Oyekola, representing Atibaa State Constituency, stated that the House cannot be bought or used by anybody, calling on those behind the alleged plot to desist and reaffirming the loyalty of the House to the governor and the leadership of Ogundoyin.

Speaker Ogundoyin remarked that the legislative arm remains uncompromised as speculated, advising political actors to respect the mandate of the people, which cannot be stolen or suppressed by anybody.

Ogundoyin publicly declared that the House has absolute confidence in Governor Makinde's leadership, as proven over the years, and expressed the legislature's commitment to working together with the executive until the end of the administration.

He looked forward to celebrating the succession of Makinde's administration in May 2027, under the Omititun 3.0 initiative, and anticipated that the state would continue to enjoy good governance under the Sustainable Development Agenda contained in the governor's economic blueprints.
