Oyo Police bust alleged human parts syndicate, recover heart, skull, others

Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected members of a human parts dealing syndicate following months of intelligence gathering, discreet surveillance and sustained monitoring of their activities across parts of the state.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit at their various hideouts in Iseyin and Saki areas of Oyo State, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade.

Those arrested were identified as Adam Ibrahim, 42; Nasiru Kabiru, 22; Tijani Wasiu, 54; Abiola Nasiru, 45; Amusa Gbadamosi, 57; Raheem Taofeek, 46; Jimoh Muritala, 35; Suleiman Busari, 47; Ganiyu Nurudeen, 36; and Usman Abdullahi, 52.

Ayanlade said the arrests were the outcome of a painstaking intelligence-led operation mounted by the police after several months of intelligence gathering, discreet surveillance and close monitoring of the suspects.

He said the operatives, following the arrests, conducted searches of the suspects’ hideouts, where they recovered several items suspected to be human parts alongside assorted charms.

“Following the arrests, the operatives searched the suspects’ hideouts and recovered several suspected human parts and charms.“

“The recovered items included one suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and assorted charms,” Ayanlade said.

The police spokesperson said the recovered exhibits had been secured and would undergo forensic examination as investigations continued.

He added that preliminary investigations had indicated that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in dealing in human parts for different ritual purposes.

According to him, the suspects were also assisting investigators in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the source, procurement and intended use of the recovered human parts.

The command said its investigation had not ended with the arrests, as efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for what he described as a painstaking intelligence-led operation that led to the arrests and recovery of the suspected human parts.

Olugbenga assured residents that the command remained resolute in its determination to rid Oyo State of criminal elements and protect the sanctity of human life.

He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide the police with credible information capable of assisting security agencies in preventing and detecting criminal activities across the state.
