Oyo Abduction: Allocate Security Funds and Resources to Traditional Rulers, Oluwo Advises Tinubu

Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has expressed that President Bola Tinubu can effectively secure Yorubaland from bandit activities by providing traditional rulers with security votes and logistics support.

The Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, made this statement through his Press Secretary, Ibrahim Alli, on Monday, emphasizing the need for security votes, vehicles, and other logistical support to enhance local security coordination in Yorubaland.

This call to action comes in response to the bandit attack on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele area of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, which occurred on May 15.

The attack resulted in the abduction of at least 45 pupils and teachers, with one of the teachers, Michael Oyedokun, being beheaded by the terrorists, as seen in a viral video.

The monarch condemned the bandit attack in Ahoro-Esinele, describing it as a heinous act against humanity and a desecration of Yorubaland and its heritage.

Oluwo of Iwo urged President Bola Tinubu to empower traditional rulers to secure their domains by providing necessary support and logistics, which would be a notable addition to his achievements.

The government, particularly the governors, must take action to prevent further bandit attacks and encroachment on Yorubaland, according to the monarch.

Empowering traditional rulers with security votes and logistics support is essential, as they are often the first point of contact in their respective domains.

In Iwo, for instance, the monarch has paramilitary personnel working with the police and other security outfits, but lacks the necessary support to effectively combat crime.

An emergency meeting of Yoruba stakeholders is necessary, and the governors should work together to promote synergy among security outfits and protect Yorubaland from the common enemy.

Providing logistics to monarchs would enable them to respond quickly to distress calls, and Yoruba monarchs must also remain vigilant and improve surveillance in their palaces.
