Oyedepo urges government to prioritize tackling insecurity, says bus preaching is not the problem.

Bishop David Oyedepo, Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has come out strongly against the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which proposes a ₦50,000 fine for preaching in commercial buses.

The Senate has clarified that this provision has been part of Nigerian law since the FRSC Establishment Act was enacted in 2007, and that the amendment bill is focused on ensuring the safety of commuters and other road users, without intending to undermine any religious activities in public spaces.

In a recent sermon delivered at his church in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State, a video of which was widely shared on Monday, Oyedepo urged the government to prioritize addressing the issue of insecurity instead.

The cleric stated that he would rather pray against those responsible for violence, than for them, and proclaimed "Woe to all destructive agents in Nigeria, whether in power or out of power, judgement has finally come."

Oyedepo further emphasized that "You can’t slaughter members of my family and want me to pray for you, I pray against you, against your household, against your generation, in the name of Jesus."

He also noted that "Everybody knows that these wicked people are being sponsored, anyone who doesn’t know that, that’s a problem," and warned that "Every sponsor of killers in Nigeria, you come under a curse today."

Oyedepo questioned the government's response to the killings, asking "You mean they kill people every day and government is pretending not to know what to do?" and expressed concern that "I have not heard any statement from government quarters against the killings, I’m yet to hear one, sir."

He lamented that "Our human life is not of value anymore?" and rhetorically asked "And now you mustn’t preach in the bus, is that an issue?"

Oyedepo, who claimed to have remained silent for a long time, believed that divine justice was imminent, saying "When you see God keep quiet at the wickedness of the wicked, it’s because the bubble is about to burst."

He concluded by saying "As the Lord lives… this bubble will burst, go and hide anywhere, the bubble will burst," emphasizing his conviction that justice would soon be served.
