Osun poll: APC, PDP file petitions challenging Adeleke’s re-election

The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has displayed two petitions filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the outcome of the August 15 governorship election that returned Governor Ademola Adeleke to office for a second term.

The petitions, dated September 5, 2026, were pasted on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally commencing the process for the hearing of disputes arising from the election.

The development followed confirmation by the Secretary of the tribunal, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the election result had been filed.

When Vanguard visited the tribunal secretariat on Monday, Belemore was in the courtroom alongside other officials as preparations were underway for the commencement of proceedings.

The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.

The filing of the petitions is expected to trigger the next stages of the election dispute process, including service of court processes on the parties and subsequent proceedings before the tribunal.

Meanwhile, officials of the Accord Party and members of its legal team were seen entering the tribunal premises shortly before the Vanguard correspondent left.

Adeleke of the Accord Party was declared winner of the August 15 election after polling 511,067 votes, ahead of Oyebamiji of the APC, who scored 444,815 votes.
