Osun lawmaker resigns from Accord, withdraws decision hours later

A member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Iwo State Constituency, Hon. Adesina Rabiu, has reversed his resignation from the Accord Party just hours after announcing his exit.

Rabiu had earlier on Monday tendered his resignation from the party, citing personal reasons in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House. The letter, which circulated on social media, stated: “I hereby tender my resignation from the Accord Party, effective immediately. This decision is personal, and I’d like to keep the reasons to myself.”

The development came shortly after the lawmaker, alongside 24 others, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid.

However, in a swift turnaround, Rabiu appeared in a video hours later alongside the Speaker, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, where he announced the withdrawal of his resignation.

Speaking in Yoruba, the lawmaker said he had rescinded his earlier decision and reaffirmed his loyalty to the Accord Party and support for Governor Adeleke’s second-term ambition.

“I, Hon. Adesina Atanda Rabiu, representing Iwo State Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Home Affairs, hereby withdraw my resignation from the Accord Party. I remain in the party and will work for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke on August 15, 2026,” he stated.

The Osun State House of Assembly comprises 26 members, with 25 originally elected on the PDP platform and one from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

On February 28, the 25 PDP lawmakers, led by the Speaker, defected to the Accord Party, citing internal crises within the PDP and their commitment to supporting Governor Adeleke’s re-election.
