Osun Election: Ede voters troop to polling units

Residents of Ede in Osun State on Saturday trooped out to various polling units to exercise their civic rights in the ongoing governorship election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that as early as 6:30 a.m., vehicles were seen conveying voters and some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to different polling units ahead of the exercise.

Some voters arrived at their polling units as early as 6:40 a.m., waiting for officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to verify their names and accredit them for voting.

Security personnel were also seen at various locations across Ede North and Ede South Local Government Areas, manning checkpoints in line with the police order restricting vehicular movement during the election.

Local election observers were also sighted at some polling units monitoring developments ahead of the commencement of accreditation.

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) had arrived at some polling units as early as 6:50 a.m., ahead of the arrival of INEC officials and election materials.

While accreditation had commenced at some polling units, INEC officials had yet to paste the names of eligible voters at some of the locations visited.

The polling units visited included Sagba Agbogunde Ward 2, Unit 9; Adogbe Ward 3, Unit 5; and CAC Ward 4, Unit 2, all in Ede North Local Government Area.

Others were Orita Alajue Ward 5, Unit 1; Obalaoye Ward 2, Unit 5; and Agip Ward 2, Unit 3, in Ede South Local Government Area.

NAN reports that Ede is the hometown of Gov. Ademola Adeleke, the governorship candidate of the Accord Party.
