Osun Assembly passes resolution on state police

The Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the resolution in support of the creation of State Police.

Recall that the National Assembly passed a State Police Creation amendment bill on June 24, 2026, before passing it to the States Houses of Assembly for consideration and approval.

The House, in its plenary on Tuesday, after a motion for the consideration of the bill was moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Babajide Kofoworola and seconded by Mr Tajudeen Adeyemi, approved the proposed bill.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, in his remarks, said the approved amendment of the House should be forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration.

The State Police Creation Amendment Bill is before the 36 State Houses of Assembly for consideration and approval before the bill is returned to the National Assembly for final approval.

The approved bill will then be passed to the President to be assented and pave the way for the creation of State Police in line with the directives of President Bola Tinubu.
