Osun APC Guber candidate urges police to probe weekend shooting

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the August 15 election in Osun State, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has called on the state Police Command to thoroughly investigate a shooting incident involving some party members during the weekend.

Political tension has risen in the state in recent weeks following reported incidents of violence in parts of Osun.

Speaking after visiting two injured party members, Taoreed Mustapha and Ayoola Idowu, at separate hospitals in Osogbo on Saturday, Oyebamiji described the violence as unfortunate and unnecessary.

He stressed that elections should not be treated as warfare but as a democratic process for electing leaders.

“I want to appeal to the Osun State Commissioner of Police to work diligently to unravel those behind the shooting and other violent incidents across the state. Enough is enough.

“I publicly condemn these acts in their entirety. If we begin to kill our own people, who then are we going to govern?

n

“I appeal to the people of Osun to embrace peace and peaceful coexistence. There is absolutely no reason for us to approach an election with violence,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the APC Campaign Organisation, Mr. Wole Oke, described the incident as unfortunate and called on security agencies to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.

He stressed the need for adequate protection of lives and property, urging all stakeholders to work towards ensuring peaceful elections in the state.

“This is very unfortunate and must stop. We call on the security agencies to thoroughly investigate these incidents.

n

“The primary responsibility of government is to ensure the security and welfare of citizens. We urge all concerned to work towards maintaining peace and protecting lives and property,” Oke said.
