Osun 2026: Orangun Disavows Support for Adeleke's Re-election Bid

Oba Abdulwahab Kayode Adedotun Bibire II, the Orangun of Ila-Orangun, has publicly denied endorsing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in the upcoming 2026 governorship election, contrary to recent claims.

In a statement released on Monday, the High Chiefs of Ila-Orangun, including the Elemo, Ejemu, Odode, Osolo, and Ode Ilu Ila, emphasized the palace's neutrality and non-partisan stance, labeling reports of the monarch's endorsement as false.

A recent statement by Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, had claimed that a delegation of chiefs, led by the Obalotun of Ila-Orangun, Chief Douglas Oyinlola, met with Governor Adeleke to pledge support for his re-election bid on behalf of the monarch.

The palace countered this claim, stating that the delegation acted without the knowledge or approval of Oba Adedotun, who neither authorized nor directed any group to represent him before the governor.

According to the palace, the monarch was not consulted or informed about the visit, and those who participated did so in their personal capacities, with their actions not reflecting the position of the traditional institution or the people of Ila-Orangun.

Oba Adedotun cautioned politicians against involving traditional institutions in partisan activities that could create unnecessary political tension in the state, while acknowledging that chiefs are entitled to express personal views.

The palace stressed that chiefs should not invoke the monarch's name without his express approval, and that internal measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The statement also commended Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, for facilitating developmental projects in Ila-Orangun, including advocacy for road dualisation, a power substation, and the establishment of Ajagunla Radio Station.

The monarch acknowledged the Osun State Government's completion and commissioning of the road project, and called on political actors and their supporters to prioritize the unity and development of Osun State above partisan interests, remaining peaceful and avoiding violence.
