Ondo state elders advise Aiyedatiwa to fall in line with Tinubu's goals for 2027

The PBAT Mandate Elders Forum in Ondo State has cautioned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa against taking actions that could potentially erode President Bola Tinubu’s influence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for forthcoming elections.

According to the forum's convener, Hon. Demola Ijabiyi, the elders anticipate that the governor will fully back the President's agenda, especially with the 2027 general elections on the horizon.

The group's stance comes in response to recent tensions sparked by the APC primaries and National Assembly elections in the state.

Ijabiyi has urged the party's leadership to prioritize President Tinubu's interests when selecting National Assembly candidates, emphasizing the need for lawmakers who can effectively collaborate with the President.

The selected lawmakers, Ijabiyi noted, must be capable of working in tandem with the President to implement his policies and programmes, thereby advancing national development goals.

Ijabiyi expressed his expectation that Governor Aiyedatiwa will not work against the President's interests, stating that the state's interests should align with those of the President.

The outcome of the primaries, he further emphasized, should yield candidates who can cooperate with the presidency in driving national development forward.

Ijabiyi stressed that National Assembly members play a crucial role in supporting presidential initiatives, and as such, should be chosen with this responsibility in mind.

The forum's primary focus, Ijabiyi said, remains the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and they do not want any actions that could undermine his support or create divisions within the party.

The elders are awaiting the final release of the APC primary results, and have called on the party's leadership to make decisions that will unify and strengthen the party.

They have also expressed confidence in the APC national leadership's ability to make decisions that avoid internal conflict and safeguard the party's prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
