Okorie cautions APC to worry about growing exodus of members

Chief Chekwas Okorie, the founding National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has cautioned that President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should focus on the implications of defections into their party rather than reveling in them.

During an interview with Vanguard in Abuja on Wednesday, Okorie voiced his concern over the apparent anxiety within the APC, which seems incongruous given the party's dominant presence in the National Assembly and its control of 31 state governments.

Okorie stated, "I'm more worried about the ruling party and its leaders displaying acts of panic in spite of their incumbency, overwhelming majority in the National Assembly, and control of 31 out of 36 state governments.

He questioned how anyone could reasonably interpret the current political landscape in certain states, highlighting the puzzling nature of the APC's behavior.

Okorie emphasized that the challenges faced by opposition parties are a reflection of the current climate, underscoring the need for a democratic environment where all political actors can operate without hindrance.

He noted that although voter frustration is mounting, Nigerians are presently expressing their discontent through peaceful engagement in the political process.

Okorie warned that limiting the activities of opposition parties could exacerbate public frustration, potentially leading to security challenges, and urged political leaders to ensure that the democratic process remains inclusive.

He asserted, "Our democracy is at stake, and it is essential that all parties are allowed to participate in the process freely," emphasizing the importance of preserving democratic principles.
