Okey Ndibe Freed by DSS, Says He's in Good Health

Nigerian author and columnist Okey Ndibe has been released by the Department of State Services, DSS, after being held at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, as confirmed by Ndibe himself.

Ndibe took to his Facebook page on Tuesday to express his gratitude to friends, acquaintances, and well-wishers who reached out to him following the news of his detention, revealing that he was appreciative of their support.

During his detention, which lasted over three hours, Ndibe interacted with DSS operatives who, he noted, conducted themselves in a professional and courteous manner throughout the ordeal.

In a Facebook post, Ndibe wrote, "I am so grateful for the expressions of concern by many friends, acquaintances and others over my detention earlier today by the DSS at Murtala Muhammed International Airport," and also stated, "The two agents who interacted with me were quite courteous throughout the three-plus hours of my detention.

Ndibe also announced, "I’d like to confirm that I’ve been released," providing an update on his situation to his supporters.

Following his detention, Ndibe received numerous calls from people all over the world, although he was only able to speak with a few of them, and he disclosed that dozens of people had reached out to him.

Despite the experience, Ndibe assured his supporters that he was in good health and high spirits, and he plans to return more calls in the coming days.

He added, "In the coming days I’ll find time to return more calls," and also said, "But I want all to know that I am fine and in excellent spirits," while also expressing that he treasures the messages and gestures of friendship from his supporters.

Ndibe further emphasized his appreciation, stating, "I treasure your messages and gestures of friendship," in a message to those who had reached out to him.
