Ojukwu University dismisses four instructors amid claims of sexual harassment, financial exploitation, and unprofessional behavior

The Governing Council of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, located in Igbariam, Anambra, has taken decisive action by dismissing five staff members due to allegations of sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, extortion, and various other forms of misconduct.

This development was made public by the university's Public Relations Officer, Dr Harrison Madubueze, through a statement released on Sunday in Awka, which outlined the council's decision.

The decision to dismiss the staff members was made during the 122nd meeting of the Governing Council, which took place on June 12, as disclosed by Madubueze.

Among those dismissed are prominent faculty members, including Prof. C.C. Nwabachili, the former Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Prof. Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.

Additionally, Dr I.H. Iheukwumere and Mr Emeka Nwabunnia, both from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Uli Campus, were also let go, as was Mrs Ifeoma Kakulu, a Principal Assistant Registrar who served as the Examination Officer of the Faculty of Law.

According to Madubueze, the dismissed staff members were found guilty of a range of offenses, including sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, extortion, and ethical misconduct.

The council, as stated by Madubueze, has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline, integrity, and accountability within the institution, and will not tolerate actions that tarnish the university's reputation.

Furthermore, the council has pledged to foster a safe, accountable, and forward-thinking atmosphere, in line with its vision of building a 'now university and of the future', as stated by Madubueze.

The disciplinary action taken by the university underscores its resolve to maintain ethical standards and uphold public confidence in its academic and administrative processes, according to the university spokesman.
