Ogun polytechnic ejects 365 undergraduates for submitting fraudulent enrollment records

The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta has taken drastic action against students who falsified their academic records, expelling a total of 365 students from its programmes. This drastic measure was announced on Monday in a statement issued by the institution's Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr Yemi Ajibola.

The affected students had been enrolled in various Higher National Diploma programmes across the polytechnic's schools, but were found to have submitted fake documents to secure their admission. These forged documents included National Diploma results and academic transcripts from different institutions, which were used to facilitate their admission into the polytechnic.

According to Mr Ajibola, the expulsion of these students followed a thorough verification exercise on the credentials submitted during the admission and registration processes. This exercise was part of the institution's efforts to sanitise its academic system and uphold the highest standards of academic integrity.

The polytechnic has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on fraud, forgery, and other forms of academic misconduct, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of excellence and professionalism. A breakdown of the expelled students reveals that 156 were from the School of Communication and Information Technology.

The School of Business and Management Studies accounted for 117 expulsions, while the School of Science and Technology had 54 students expelled. The School of Engineering also saw 36 students expelled, and two students were affected in the School of Environmental Studies.

The rector of the polytechnic, Dr Koye Jolaoso, has warned prospective applicants against using fake credentials to gain admission into the institution. Dr Jolaoso stated that the decision to expel the students reflects the polytechnic's commitment to academic integrity, excellence, and professionalism.
