Obi justifies party swaps, suggests he may abandon ADC if its nomination process is tainted.

Peter Obi, a prominent opposition figure and presidential aspirant for the African Democratic Congress, has hinted that he may abandon the party if its internal mechanisms are compromised, emphasizing that principle guides his decisions rather than convenience.

During an interview on Arise Television's Prime Time on Monday, Obi justified his history of switching between political parties, stating that his past departures were driven by a refusal to participate in flawed systems.

Obi cited his move from the All Progressives Grand Alliance to the Peoples Democratic Party, which was prompted by issues with his successor, the governor, saying he chose to leave rather than allow the situation to become toxic and destructive to the state's governance.

He also attributed his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party to irregularities in its internal processes, describing it as transactional and stating that he could not be part of a system that required him to pay people to serve them.

Obi further explained that he joined the Labour Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, but the ruling party and the Federal Government allegedly masterminded the crisis that led to his decision to leave the Labour Party, citing delays in recognizing a Supreme Court ruling.

He noted that the Supreme Court's decision in April was not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission until January 7, eight months later, and accused the government of attempting to trap him in a dysfunctional system.

Obi stated that he remains committed to the African Democratic Congress but warned that he would not hesitate to act if similar issues arise, emphasizing that integrity in political processes is non-negotiable for him.

He stressed that he is willing to move between parties as many times as necessary to uphold his principles, saying "If I have to move twenty times, I will do it," and emphasizing that yesterday's processes cannot be used to build tomorrow.

Obi also maintained that he has never engaged in electoral malpractice or influenced judicial outcomes, saying "I've never been involved in any form of rigging" and "I've never been part of paying people in judiciary or anywhere to give me judgment I do not deserve."
