Obafemi Awolowo University medical student collapses, loses life while taking practical exam

Tragedy struck Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Thursday, as a 400-level medical student, Oreoluwa Emmanuel, suddenly passed away during a clinical examination, plunging the student body into mourning.

The incident occurred when Oreoluwa Emmanuel collapsed just minutes before his oral examination was set to begin, according to sources within the university.

Following the collapse, the student was swiftly rushed to the medical centre and subsequently to the teaching hospital, where, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The school's spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, released a statement describing the event as "very unfortunate" and expressing the university's deep regret over the loss.

According to the statement, Oreoluwa Emmanuel had complained of chest pain during the clinical viva examination, prompting his lecturers and fellow medical students to immediately attend to him.

Despite the prompt medical attention and efforts to revive him, the student sadly succumbed to his condition, sending shockwaves throughout the University community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff, and students of the University.

Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire also commiserated with Oreoluwa Emmanuel's friends, colleagues, and members of the College of Health Sciences, acknowledging the painful and irreparable loss they have suffered.

The University Management is currently working with relevant authorities and the family to provide necessary support and gain a deeper understanding of the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
