Northern governors urge unity in fight against terror after condemning deadly Maiduguri explosions

Northern State Governors’ Forum has denounced the devastating explosions that struck Maiduguri on Monday evening, characterizing the attacks as brutal, inhumane, and a deliberate assault on defenseless lives.

Inuwa Yahaya, Chairman of the forum and Governor of Gombe State, issued a statement on Tuesday in Gombe, through his Media Aide, Mr Ismaila Uba-Misilli, to condemn the attacks on behalf of his colleagues.

Yahaya expressed profound sadness over the tragic events, offering sincere condolences to the government and people of Borno, particularly families who lost loved ones in the blasts.

He described the violence as a senseless act that aims to instil fear and disrupt the fragile peace being restored in the North-East, labelling it a cruel attempt to undermine humanity.

Yahaya sympathized with victims receiving medical treatment in various hospitals, praying for their swift recovery, and commended first responders and security agencies for their prompt intervention in managing the aftermath of the explosions.

The chairman reiterated the commitment of northern governors to collaborate closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to combat and defeat all forms of terrorism and criminality threatening the region's peace and stability.

He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information to aid ongoing investigations into the blasts.

Yahaya emphasized the need for unity against forces of terror, stating that the resolve to secure the region remains unwavering, and together, they would overcome these cowardly acts.

He prayed for the souls of those who lost their lives in the tragic incidents and called for intensified efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.

Explosions occurred almost simultaneously at the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the Monday Market Roundabout, and the Post Office area, all in Maiduguri on Monday, according to reports.

The blasts resulted in many feared dead and several others injured, with the exact toll yet to be confirmed.
