The FCT Police Command on Thursday night decried what it described as false and misleading publications on social media alleging serious security threats in communities in the Kuje Area Council.
The command stated that although Police operatives have been deployed to the communities, investigation showed that the allegations were the handiwork of mischief makers aimed at creating panic among the residents.
Spokesman of the Police, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement, said, “The FCT Command is aware of recent publications circulating across online platforms alleging security threats within Kuje Area of the FCT, particularly around Wowo Garage in Chibiri, Shadadi Village, Shetuko Village, Kango Village, and Passali, where a large presence of security personnel on patrol was allegedly sighted.
“Following a detailed investigation into these claims, the Command wishes to clearly state that these publications are false, misleading, and originate from mischief makers seeking to spread fear and panic within the community for their mischievous purposes.
“While robust deployments and routine patrols are ongoing within the area as a proactive measure to ensure public safety, they should not be misunderstood as indicators of possible threats.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi has also deployed personnel in and around the communities, to forestall any possible security breach and to further reassure residents of their safety, and the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.
“Members of the public are further advised to remain security conscious and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the Command’s emergency lines:08032003913, 08061581938.”
