NNPP schedules May 26 for nomination elections across all offices

The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has scheduled its primaries for all elective positions to take place on May 26, as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections.

The elective positions that will be up for grabs include seats in the House of Assembly, governorship, National Assembly, and the presidency, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, announced that the party will be using the consensus mode of election in all wards across the country.

Johnson revealed that the date of the primaries had already been communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ensuring that the party is in compliance with regulatory requirements.

On April 23, INEC successfully concluded a verification exercise of the party’s administrative and operational structures at its national secretariat in Abuja, a development that Johnson said serves as official validation of the Hon. Bala Mohammad-led National Working Committee (NWC).

This validation, according to Johnson, effectively puts to rest the claims of expelled members who have been challenging the NWC’s authority, and reaffirms the current leadership as the only recognised one in the party.

Johnson described the reliance of expelled members on various court orders as ‘shadow-boxing’, pointing out that a subsisting judgment from the Federal High Court, Abuja, confirms that these individuals are no longer members of the NNPP.

He accused the expelled members of deliberately withholding material facts to mislead the judiciary, by failing to disclose the subsisting judgment in subsequent court cases.

Johnson expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will ultimately resolve the leadership tussle in favour of the current NWC, and accused detractors of using deceptive tactics to sustain a failed political project.

The NNPP National Publicity Secretary urged Nigerians, particularly the youth and professionals, to take part in the party’s ongoing membership registration, which is being conducted across the 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas in the country.
